Cap Bear Rouge 2016
Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2016 Collioure Cap Bear is a sensational Collioure that’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. A blend of Grenache and Syrah that possesses loads of crème de cassis, licorice, spicy oak and hints of chalky minerality, it has full-bodied richness, beautiful purity, sweet tannin and a great finish. It’s a gorgeous wine.
1947 Domaine Cazes • Rivesaltes
Deeper and darker in color than the 1957 Rivesaltes, the 1947 Rivesaltes is another seamless, elegant, lightly textured release from Domaine Cazes that offers sensational notes of caramel, toasted nuts, white raisins and toffee bar, with a touch of rancio character coming through with time in the glass. Like everything from this estate, it’s impeccably balanced, pure and just impossible to resist.
Les Clos de Paulilles 2016
Another wine that shows plenty of seaside influence is the 2016 Collioure (45% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre) and it sports a saturated inky color as well as rocking notes of cassis, black raspberries, baking spice and licorice. Ripe, full-bodied, supple and forward, it offers incredible amounts of pleasure for a more than fair price.
